This Brittany holiday cottage with private pool provides very comfortable accommodation on a self catering basis in the heart of the Brittany countryside close to some wonderful tourist attractions, within this page you will find some helpful information to make the most of your stay at the cottage.
The cottage is nestled in a small hamlet just 3 miles from the market town of Baud.
The River Tarun with its trout fishing is only 100 metres away.
Baud has a fair range of social outlets including a cinema, a nightclub called 'Le Podium' and a selection of restaurants and pubs. Also within the town is a 25 m indoor swimming pool with slide and tennis courts.
There are several supermarkets including Champion, Lidl, Intermarche and a number of bakeries.
Horse riding and 6 golf courses are all close by to the cottage.
Restaurants in the market town of Baud
What ever your taste there is plenty of choice of restaurants in Baud from the best of French cuisine, too wonderful crepes, Pizza and Chinese.To mention three of my favorites:
Le Cheval Blanc renowned in the area, specializing in sea food dishes, offers set menu's ranging from 3 course meals at 16 euros or for those with a big appetite a 5 course menu for 34 euros.
La Taverne is situated just outside Baud but is only 2 miles from the cottage. The restaurant offers a wide range of different main courses.
Le Citron Vert specializes in Crepes.
Medieval town of Josselin
The picturesque medieval town of Josselin is 25 miles from the cottage and was the dynastic home of the Rohan family throughout the middle ages.
There are many tourist attractions in this historic town including the fantastic 12th century turreted Chateau overlooking the Oust river and many 16th century half-timbered buildings and the gargoyled Basilique Notre Dame du Roncier with its beautiful 15th century stained glass windows.
Every Bastille Day 14th July Josselin recounts its historic past with the hugely popular Festival Medieval when the whole town dresses up in period costume.
Vannes is just 25 miles from the cottage / gite
Modern Vannes is such a large and thriving community that the old walled town at its core Vieux Vannes, may come as a surprise.Its focal point, the old gateway of the Porte St-Vincent, commands a busy little square at the northern end of the long canalized port that provides access to the Gulf De Morbihan.
Once inside the ramparts, the old centre of chaotic streets with exposed timber dwellings crammed around the 14th century cathedral is a wonderful sight.
Napoleonic Pontivy is just 15 miles from the gite
With its contrasting Medieval, Napoleonic and modern day areas the town of Pontivy with its fortified 15th century chateau overlooking the river Blavet is another great place to visit.
Auray with its ancient port of St-Goustan
A must to visit while staying at the cottage is Auray especially on a Monday where you can enjoy a thriving French market then have lunch in one of the many restaurants within the old port of St-Goustan.
The Gulf de Morbihan, Carnac and Quiberon
The coast of southern Brittany is truly spectacular with wonderful beaches and many tourist attractions including the famous Carnac stones and the many islands scattered within the Gulf. You can take boat tours from Vannes, Auray, Lorient and Quiberon to explore the islands and coastline.Sailing, scuba diving and kite surfing are just a few of the sports available to enjoy.
