Ferry crossings to Brittany and France

With numerous ways to cross the channel you are spoilt for choice, I would always rather relax on a ferry than have to long a drive so with that in mind Ive always used Brittany Ferries in the past.Brittany Ferries operate from Cork,Plymouth,Poole and Portsmouth sailing too Caen,St Malo,Cherbourg and Roscoff. Its always a good idea to look at the cost of all the arrival and departure ports on the French side of the journey to reduce cost and obtain the best sailing times.

In 2008 i discovered a new ferry operator L & D lines, slightly more basic but at a fraction of the cost of Brittany Ferries. They operate from Rosslare or Portsmouth sailing too La Harve and in 2009 have started new routes providing ferry crossings from Dover to Boulgne or Dieppe or from Newhaven to Dieppe. If your popping over to France on a regular basis L & D lines offer a frequent traveller reward scheme thats free to join.

I have just started using the Newhaven too Dieppe service myself from L & D lines and just paid £80 for a return crossing with a car plus 2 passengers. Although a long drive too the holiday cottage (300 miles) the ferry crossing was only 4 hours and I felt very fresh and the additional hour of driving was easy.

If your driving from Caen, Cherbourg, Dieppe or La Harve a nice rest stop is at the Mt Saint Michael service station which offers a restaurant and good facilities 40 miles north of Rennes.

Chez Nous offer a ferry booking service for Brittany Ferries, once you have booked your holiday I can provide a reference number to obtain a discounted price.
